Wait—recording? Or collecting? My oldest daughter and I have start recording vinyl together. After considerable research I landed on a good turntable and got it hooked up to my new onkyo receiver that feeds 5 brand new Polk Signature series speakers. I think we have maybe about 8-10 albums so far. Does anyone else share the same hobby?
Im a fucken idiot. Yeah definately collecting.Wait—recording? Or collecting?
I collected vinyl for a while. Did the whole record show circuit, this was long before internet...writing letters and sending money orders. It was fun but one day I woke up to around 4-5000 LPS, Eps and 45s, and decided it was time.I went through a period of collecting and listening to vinyl when I was younger and single. I eventually got rid of my turntable and records as I just really wasn't able to make use of it once I had others in my household. My musical tastes aren't shared by all that many people so headphones is generally my only option when I'm at home. The convenience of having all the music I could ever listen to on my phone, coupled with having to listen on headphones anyway, eventually just phased out my interest in vinyl.
And if I am being honest, I think I was into vinyl more just because that's what the cool kids did, and not because I really preferred the listening experience. Digital music played through good headphones is perfectly fine to my ears, so it just didn't really make a lot of sense for me to keep spending money on vinyl.
