Bought a new guitar just so I can have it permanently tune to Drop D so I can play this finally.
When you start playing with alternative tunings is when you realize the main reason your guitar heroes need so many guitars and a guitar tech. Alternative tunings are difficult to maintain, and maybe even more difficult to reverse, but MAN, do they produce some cool, iconic sounds (that can't be achieved any other way). Drop D is pretty easy to switch, but tuning to an open chord, for example, sometimes even requires you to mess with the intonation, which is a major can of worms. Yeah... I need more guitars. And a tech. Better skills wouldn't hurt, I suppose....
I've been playing guitar since '65. I think alternate tunings sound great but I didn't do much of it. I've attended clinics and concerts by a couple of amazing solo players who use alternate tunings, multiple capos, etc. and just work tunings into the show while communicating with the audience.

*sorry for the lengthy "mix" 1st time 'round.

If you like tunes with sax, you might also like Mindi Abair. Saw her at Jazz Alley and she put on a great show.

Yeah, l do like Mindy Abair. Mostly I like sax blended into a good song, though.
Been too long since I've been to Jazz Alley. Last time there was Peter White before he passed.

In 1952, Johnny and his brother, Dorsey Burnette, and their mutual friend Paul Burlison formed the band that became known as the rock and roll trio. His career was cut short on August 14, 1964, when he was killed in a boat crash at age 30.

I came across another altered tuning performance by Mr Cool Jazz, Kenny Burrell; an all-time fave. At 5:26 into this solo performance in the middle of the piece he drops the 6th string to D and when he plays the note it's dead on.... Wow!

Also this one. They both showed up on my Spotify playlist last night . Had not heard the Sammy Hagar one before.

I saw Wanda a few years ago, she expressed much respect for Jack White and his work ethic. She still brought it, great show.
The sweet girl with the nasty voice. Also like Tongue Tied. She would have been really great to see. Would be great to travel back to the late 50s and see her then. So many from the early days are forgotten. I was hatched in 59 but had older sisters and glad they were into the music my parents hated.
