Puget Sound

Divad

Whitefish
Show up with the six pack of buzz bombs still in packaging along with a six pack of beer. Gulp the first can while throwing it over the shoulder for good luck. Strip the lure packaging off and drop it in the water, “oops”. Repeat until you lose 4 lures and 100ft of braid but manage two fish still floundering in the sand. Light a cig, smoking 2/3s before flicking it to the beach for later.

To be fair I enjoy the fight and food they provide just not the waves of inconsiderate people.

Had a totally unexpected glimpse of Puget Sound through the windshield of the Audi R8 my nephew rented for his 21st.

He drove it responsibly but did rev it a few times. Definitely a car that makes its presence known. Apologies to any West Seattle residents that were disturbed.

The local beaver has been busy. It’s built two dams so far.
Couldn’t ever get a good, clear picture of it tonight.

Hit it again this morning. Fishing was slower but some bigger fish. Not nearly as much tidal movement today. Only fish pic I took today.
Slobs were on the beaches yesterday with the nice weather.

THREAD DRIFT - Not the Sound..........

Visited the Botanical Gardens in Torrance, CA today. One of the exhibits made me think of Stonefish (no "d" Brian) and the Boot - some pretty cool art from debris (garbage, litter, pollutants, or more properly flotsam/jetsam?).

Objects d'art:

Pretty amazing to see how artists were able to build these sculptures from beach garbage. Then again, Botanical Gardens - a very lovely place to spend a few hours, is built upon an old garbage dump.

Some pretty decent cutt fishing this morning.
Good number of 12-14” fish with a few larger ones mixed in. Had one big jumbo follow the fly in and turn away when I ran out of line.
Lots of jumping targets to cast at.
Started at 4:30 and called it a day at 7:30.
Hell of a lot more fun than going to work.

What...
Did it get too sunny and hot by 7:30 ?
:)

Lol
Tide petered out. Went to another beach but it was really low….like mud with no water due to the minus.
Now on to house painting 🤮

4:30??? Wow! I was still snoring......

I hate changing glasses when I fish, so it was an interesting hike in at that time with my sunglasses on. 😂

Anyone know what type of plant this is? It sure is fragrant. The trail this morning kind of smelled like the swimmer may have been ahead of me, trying to get first water.

Looks to be Holodiscus discolor, commonly called Ocean Spray.

One of my favorite native shrubs...almost always blooming around the 4th.

It’s funny I’ve never seen the beavers there l, only the mayhem they cause. I’m amazed there’s any trees left at that pond. My son was hanging out with friends near there after dark and a big ol beaver lumped out of the salt and up the beach to the pond. Never knew the beavers liked the salt but around there it’s the only way to get about or it’s a long walk. Maybe they jump the trains ;) I’ll see if he can send me a pic to share.

Dave,
The beaver was swimming around in the pool behind the upper most dam when I was there earlier this week.
They have wire around many of the trees now to prevent damage. I hope they leave it but I’d put money on them removing it due to flooding concerns. One park bench is already surrounded by water. Some folks on Nextdoor are very concerned about how the chum salmon will handle the dams this fall.
I really wonder how salmon back in the day even survived with all the beaver dams back then. Today’s salmon just aren’t that tough.
😂
I’ve had a beaver swim up to me before while fishing the beach. At first I thought it was an otter until I got the big tail slap. They definitely utilize saltwater for moving around.
