Some people have been sending me messages (you know who you are) about how to catch a puget sound coconut, and I am sorry I didn't respond sooner. I mean I honestly thought my Puget Sound nut tapping days were over. But today, my taint-hearted friends, a proverbial ticket to the ball floated within casting range. I saw my first Puget Sound Coconut of 2022!

After what seemed like a thousand casts a lot of swinging and numerous annoying bycatch of that trash fish, the searun cutthroat, I finally was able to get my fly unmolested to the maw of this husky beauty. After a fight like none other, I wet my hand and grabbed this hairy and fleshy nut. There was, by necessity, groping. But no tickling, I assure you Boot doesn't tickle his coconuts, these aren't trout after all. I got it safely tailed and landed. I posed the nut on this filthy log, took a nut pic, and then put my nut pic on the internet for everyone to see!

Moneyshot, right there. Looks like you busted your nut in the process.

"My taint hearted friends" is the kind of Literature that's keeps me coming back to boot.

And those nuts, of course.

Got out salmon fishing for the first time in 10 days today. PS did not disappoint! Knowing I had until late afternoon to fish if needed, I made the usually poor decision to high grade my first keeper salmon at about 6:30 AM. I decent 3-4 lb hatchery fish sent to swim another day. Kept my next when landed it about 45 minutes later. A nice 6 lb or so hen measuring out at 24.5 inches when I got her home. At that point, the fish gods decided to shut me down the rest of the day. One more lost keeper sized fish and two shakers over the next 6 hours.

I was fishing on a Wednesday though…so whose complaining ;).

....and the likelihood is most if not all of those swam through MA 9 on their way back to the hatchery.
But lets keep a quota of 4,700 fish for MA 9 with nine days of chinook fishing to protect a stock that can't even replenish itself.
Hatchery surplus seems to be a good thing nowadays versus angling opportunities......

Lake Washington is almost at 16k for Chinook too. Those numbers probably explain why I have seen an odd number of chinook roll right by me the past two weeks or so.

Way better than forecasted. They haven't even opened the lake up in about 25 years, but when it was open it was a decent fishery. The hatchery at Issaquah should be packed with fish the next big rain.
