How do we not have one of these yet?

I enjoyed this series. I think we all have special places that bring back fond memories and these are two of my favorites.

And yeah, the Smith kind of speaks for itself. I've been lucky to do this trip 11 times. There are few things better than waking up mid-canyon knowing you have nothing to do that day but break down camp and go fish.

I just wasted almost 10 minutes of my life on episode #1. on fishing Montana. All he did was run his mouth. There was NO fly fishing being shown in #1. Plus he's in Yellowstone Park which means he's in Wyoming, not Montana. He needs to get his story right.

Well, I'm sure I've posted this one up a time or two, but it really encapsulates why I predominantly fish for what I fish for.
I always love the short stretch at ~1:47 where the videographer asks John Geirach a question.

Also the streamer chronicles series is pretty decent as well...

Honestly though, I get far more out of certain fly tying videos from guys like Gunnar Brammer where he not only gives the "how", but he talks a lot about the "why"

Those boatside eats are hectic.

There's so much more to a fishing trip than simply casting a fly or catching a fish. Dude's been coming to Yellowstone Park since he was 17 and whenever he visits it brings back memories of his friends and family. For those that have had the pleasure to visit Yellowstone it truly is a place like no other.

Then he visits the Madison which is his favorite river in the world. You can sense he truly appreciates what this area has to offer.

Same for the Smith River video. Even though fishing wasn't great dude was blown away with how beautiful that canyon is. There is so much more to that trip than just catching a trout.

In many ways this is way more interesting than just fish porn. Although the muskie and tarpon eats are bad ass.

Watching the Musky video, I'm curious as to why guys don't let them run instead of netting them within 10 seconds?

With all of the bulldogging and headshaking that goes on, that really increases the chance of the hook working out by quite a bit (especially with barbless, which many fly folks use). Of course, fishing solo, I don't know that I've ever been able to net one within even a minute. Although, I did have one boatside eat that I managed to net in less than 2 minutes. That said, it's pretty rare for my fights to go over 5 min. The other reason to not let them run is that they will run straight into structure. wood, rocks, weeds...

When I think of musky fishing it is ALL about the eat.

Same with brown trout on a big dry or streamer.

It really is. There is just something insanely cool when you see that 8-10" fly completely disappear. Even better when it happens literally right next to you. I mean, I'll take those long distant eats all day every day since there are so few eats period, but man, that boatside shit is just insane. Geirach summed it up perfectly in that video. Shoot, that's partially why I fish streamers so much for pretty much everything....those visuals!

Did these videos a few years back. Nothing professional or noteworthy. For @Old Man : Indeed no talking, just fly fishing, probably questionable technique and in Montana.

never expected a post from @swimmy to make me recall a wordsworth quote. but i spent yesterday in some of OMJ's old stomping grounds, and there's no way he doesn't know what this feels like:

...when first I came among these hills; when like a roe I bounded o'er the mountains, by the sides of the deep rivers, and the lonely streams, wherever nature led: more like a man flying from something that he dreads, than one who sought the thing he loved....

The sounding cataract haunted me like a passion: the tall rock, the mountain, and the deep and gloomy wood, their colours and their forms, were then to me an appetite; a feeling and a love that had no need of a remoter charm.
