This one won't even be a hand me down for the grandkids, just too worn and I'm sure the collets won't take much more torque. Tried a regal knock off and liked the way it could go from a sz 18 for a little black spider to a 6 4xl for a stonefly, which I do often in summer, just not the finish/quality.I hear ya'. I still use my decades old Thompson A, but it doesn't hold the long shank hooks as tight as needed either. Fortunately a friend who was moving away gave me her Regal, and it holds hooks very solid.
I'll let you know how I like it. I don't currently have any desires for a new rod this year so I decided to go big and do the full rotary on a c clamp.I love my Regal vice. It is not a true rotary but the head turns. Looking forward to your review!
Not to worry. Things like this happen when you get older . . .
I couldn't put my hands on an HMH to try but the standard vice was the one I almost got. If, for some reason, I don't care for the regal I figured I would try another then sell one. I figure this will be my last vice.If I had the cash, I'd be looking at something else as well....currently tying on an HMH, which is fucking awesome! but for really big flies, it doesn't have the most room to work with.
Haha. Yes, part of life at this point. My back went out last Saturday pushing the vacuum. Still can't get comfortable, sit in one place or stand long. Stairs suck and no driving. I'll start PT again this week though. Not to worry. Things like this happen when you get older . . .
I’m the exact opposite of you. I bought a DynaKing Kingfisher when I first started tying, and have been using it ever since. Works for size 20 up to 8/0 lingcod flies!Nice! I love vises. Ive settled on my favorite but can't seem to help trying new ones.
