I’ve been working on it for years. Finally- I can do it right 100% of the time.
No big deal?????
I find it extremely helpful especially when you are tying heads of deer hair or big dubbing heads.

40+ years of tying flies, and I have never got the hang of using a whip finish tool. The tool probably existed when I started, but the one book about fly tying in my local library didn‘t mention it. I keep thinking it would be a game changer if I learned how to use one.

Rob, you could also roll with something like this:

We used these back when I had to do direct brain injections (and surgery) in mice. worked great!

What he said. I use one of these and it revolutionized my tying.
I've had a detached retina and 4 surgeries in my left eye and 2 in my right eye.
I struggled with size 12 flys and with the
Lumivisor size 16 are no problem now.
My Lumivisor was 20.00 at Hobby Lobby.
