Here are a few more critters that turn up in the yard now and then, more like along the edge of the lawn or woods.

The old one car garage is converted into my wife's quilting studio and I built a big shop / garage about ten years ago.

We needed a place to keep the fire truck, it started life as part of the Shawnee Oklahoma Fire Dept and now it's here.

This happens sometimes.

Those were taken during a very active sequence that was happening directly overhead of the house.

I've worked with and around waterfowl throughout my career and never saw anything like this until we bought our place on the Oregon Coast (Devils Lake near Lincoln City). We were out on a walk in late December and saw a flock of mallards working over the neighborhood. Much to our surprise, the whole flock landed on the neighbor's roof!

A few years ago, a mated pair of Mallards took a liking to sunning on a neighbor's roof. During that same year, I saw a Great Blue Heron on the same roof.

My parents had a pair of mallards that would visit their front yard. They'd eat grass and I'd bet slugs, worms or whatever else they might find.
They showed up for about four years in a row. There was a small lake nearby so I assume that is where they came from.

This otter was not really happy with my presence. He came up from diving for crawdads and sculpins to find me too close and slapped the water like the way a beaver often does. Have never seen this from a river otter before. Next time surfacing he swam right over and gave me a long, slow stare down.

After a bit of more scavenging he jumped a log and went on to sunning some, but still kept an eye on me !

Did you catch any fish afterwards?

After watching them for a while, since they are so cool, I usually just pack up and find another spot.

I had a beaver sneek up on me and slap its tail on a Western MT. stream. Sounded like a shotgun blast. Scared the bejezzus out of me. Shutdown fishing for awhile too...
