Those are barred owls. I expect that you had two parents and a fledgling (timing is certainly right). I didn't think that barred owls would target fish but here is a YouTube clip with undeniable proof.

Fat robin taking a rest. Not sure why, but the two rabbits that are always in my backyard like lying in that spot as well. Maybe just the way the sun hits it.

A bunch (4?) of eagles were dive-bombing a duck on the lake today, over and over for several minutes. It looked like maybe they were picking ducklings off the water, but I didn't see any ducklings. I've been wondering why the eagles don't chow down on the ducks, it's a target rich environment!

Have seen that many times out in the sound and canal.
The ducks eventually wear out from either diving or trying to avoid the eagles before finally getting picked off.
In particular I’ve seen a lot of coots get taken out on the canal. Always cool to see.

Oddly, the largest owl in the world is the Blakiston's fish owl from Asia. Weird!

I raised a Barn owl decades ago and it was fed frogs once in awhile when mice were hard to find for a day or so. It ate them without glee, but ate them.

Indeed, not sure what the full method was but not exactly the normal way of running across a creature in the wild. Looks pretty comfy, however : )

Apparently aphids are going to be a thing this year, at least in my neck of the woods.


I've never seen these before, apparently they're asian lady beetles. Bad for not being native, but good for still being a lady bug. Holy #(&@ those larva are !!

I’ve seen this poor old guy a couple times over the last two months. First interaction I thought he was dead on the feeder and saw one of his eyes are all clouded over.

He flies a little funky, kind of like a b52 crossed with a helicopter but is still kick’n it!







It’s cool watching the other birds give him space, they fight against one another but leave him be.
