Puget Sound

Looked for chums with @jasmillo this morning, found some but they were being pricks, lousy tide doesn't help either.
Got into some src at slack low half time.

Yeah, chum were not very playful this morning as they often are when fishing for them in ankle to knee deep water. Prefer knee deep or higher when targeting them. There were a couple of players around. I lost one early and had one break me off super late as the tide was coming in. Not sure if the one late ate it or not. The fact that he took off like Hussein Bolt as soon as he felt the hook makes me think he may have been foul hooked. Who knows though. Early one definitely ate it.

Anyway, ….src to the rescue. Not the first day they’ve saved for me on PS when targeting salmon.

Wet your knots when tightening boys and girls and check for abrasion. If someone catches a chum with a fly and full leader still attached, feel free to reach out :).

There were a chum or two under that rainbow….

Got cleaned out now. Only a couple of boats making it back to 10th street launch this afternoon very quiet it seems out there today. Can breathe again.

Fun day on the water. 38° when I started at 7:30. Called it a day at 1:30.
It was nice to have fog and well as cooler air and water temps.
Some anchovies around but not nearly as many as the past two trips, which was great.
Also some staging coho and chum around.
Quite a few fish as usual with wounds.
Never changed flies today. I used a double hackle bead chain eye fly inspired by some European sea trout patterns I’ve been looking at recently.
A few pics from today.

Why the wounds? Are they from being hooked during the beach/salt water salmon season?

Sasquatches?

or Wolves?

Just kidding on the last two, I’m truly curious

Birds, otters and seals just to name some suspects.
They run the gauntlet based on where they spend most of their time, which is shallow water.
They also are know to stick their faces in oyster beds and barnacles while feeding which explains a lot of the gill plate scraps.

Wow what a great day! Would love to see a photo of the fly you were using, it must be a good pattern.
