Probably like a wild cow milking contest at a rodeo…Chum from a canoe? I have had large brook trout (6+ lbs) pull my canoe at a fair pace. Can't imagine what a really strong fish like a Chum would do.
Wondering about the Hoodsport area. Not worried at all about tidal currents in the Miami Cove estuaries. I am sure my anchor will hold just fine there.Ex
Expand a bit on this, please. Not sure if you're referencing that Oregon water or Hoodsport that I mentioned.
I would most likely fish anchored up, but it would be fun to get a towChum from a canoe? I have had large brook trout (6+ lbs) pull my canoe at a fair pace. Can't imagine what a really strong fish like a Chum would do.
I normally just drop my anchor over the left side and tie the line to the middle seat. If I really want to fish a spot for a while and be at a specific angle I have another small anchor for the front. He'll be fine.
Put your outriggers out all the way, use your motor to go to and from, and drift.
Didn't see one, do you have an anchor trolley rigged up bow to stern ? If so, add a drift sock to your arsenal. Use it to help add drag if you're being towed.
You would be fine current wise at Hoodsport. I do it on a SUP.Wondering about the Hoodsport area. Not worried at all about tidal currents in the Miami Cove estuaries. I am sure my anchor will hold just fine there.

A coupla of the rivers emptying into Tbay used to be my winter King go-to's for over a decade.
Sad to hear...at a meeting I went to that ODFW hosted in Tillamook over a decade ago, the chief dept biologist attending predicted the gradual and then accelerating diminishment of salmon in both numbers and size due to warming ocean currents diffusing the bait schools = salmon having to search further and longer, impacting survival and growth potential.Lance, those winter kings are almost gone. To protect them, ODFW now closes the season at the end of November to protect those really late fish that arrive between Thanksgiving and New Years. Winter kings are now the focus of several restoration projects in those watersheds so there's hope for recovery.
