Chum From a Canoe - Miami Cove (Tillamook Bay)?

I am thinking about options to catch my first chum. From what I have read, the situation on the Miami and Kilchis from the bank isn't very fly friendly. Is it possible to just walk a little bit from the bridge access points and find space?

Is it a crazy idea to fish from a canoe around low tide? Satellite images suggest some of the channels in Miami Cove (circled in red) look like they might hold staging fish you can't get to on foot.

I have outriggers (they are not extended in the pic) and a trolling motor.

Not crazy at all. Replace canoe with SUP and I was thinking the same thing. Had some great days fishing similar bays in Alaska for chum.

I’m not familiar with those waters, but if you can roll cast an indicator rig 5-10’ off the bank you can catch chums. That is if you aren’t opposed to using an indicator with a heavy fly tied on a jig hook.

Yeah, just bank it on a weekday after a rain event. You can beach your boat at a spot with some calmer chum holding water. They like cherise and chartreuse maribou flies weighted as necessary. Chum are an easy fly target once you find a good holding spot. 8 or 9 wt rod

I've had similar thoughts driving into Garibaldi back when I used to fish there regularly. Its a pretty short paddle across that cove, should be doable in decent weather.

Go for it. I bet if you I watch, you'll see kayak guys out there too. Used to do that at hoodsport. 8 wt recommended
