NFR NFL - 2022

Non-fishing related
Didn’t watch the other two games today which were close, but there is a game coming on at 6:00 on FS1 if you need to burn off some Easter ham. ;)

Edit….game postponed due to weather.
A football game was postponed due to weather?????
Must have been some serious weather. Like a tornado

That or severe lightning.
Rescheduled on FS1 for 4:00 this afternoon.

I know the game got cancelled and rescheduled for today, but damn….
the USFL might have an attendance problem.

I’m not sure why they selected some cities that already have NFL teams. Tonight’s game is Pittsburg vs Tampa Bay. Seems like you are fighting for NFL dollars and not likely to win if fans have to decide between Watt, Brady or the USFL.
The Birmingham franchise makes more sense to me. No pro ball but in a football crazy state.

The XFL games were not like that at all. Seattle and St. Louis especially had very good attendance.

I did some online sleuthing Saturday and had not been aware that all of the USFL games are being played in Birmingham, AL (two stadiums). Playoff games are being played at stadium in Canton, OH.

Good info. I wasn’t aware of that.
No wonder the Birmingham game crowd seemed so much larger.

I just don’t think spring football will ever catch on. It’s a fall sport. Seared into the American psyche as such. You want to compete with NFL, compete head on. Do it in the fall when football fever is in full swing. Gain some viewership and hope the NFL buys you up. Play games Friday nights and bring something to the table besides has beens and never weres. Try something innovative with the game besides dumb nicknames on jerseys. I have no interest in watching baseball in February or basketball in August. To much to do going on in summer to spend 4 hours watching minor league football played with no passion. Another failed pro football experiment playing out before our eyes yet again IMO….

I think the XFL has a chance at success. The only reason its 2020 season de-railed is because of covid. Just taking a few years to get it back up and running. It's well funded, well marketed, has great rule ideas, and is positioning itself as a farm league of sorts. As for the USFL, it seems almost like a half assed version of what the AAF tried in 2019, which also failed. AAF wasn't bad, but didn't have the funds to continue.

It almost doesn't matter that there aren't that many people in the seats (It probably doesn't help that they're all in the same city--probably to cut operating costs waaaay down). It's the TV money that counts. I had heard that the numbers for the first weekend averaged around 3 million watching (no, I'm not going to fact check that source because I really don't care that much). That'll obviously go down some, but it still beats virtually every single regular season game of MLB or NHL by a pretty wide margin.

Honestly, I think both have a decent chance. I love the tweaks here and there to the rules and cameras and mics. I'm guessing the NFL will take some of these things (they did with camera angles after the first iteration of the XFL). Looking forward to seeing the XFL.

The NFL Draft is coming up fast. LA RAMS have selected the venue for this critical event.

Somewhat NFL related. Had to chuckle watching clips of Marshawn doing donuts on the Kraken Zamboni while wearing a Kraken's jersey with number 24 on the back and in the name space above the number the word owner. Got to hand it to both Lynch and his financial advisor (if he has one) for keeping him relevant and the checks rolling in. Probably a smart move by Kraken ownership also to welcome him to the group. Nice to see him remain a presence in the PNW. Once a real character always a real character.

Supposedly not about money, about how he’s used..
One of the most exciting players in the game, hands down. Can't think of too many players in the league I would rather have on my team.

How does he want to be used as opposed to how they used him last year?
He is one who came up with the term wide back. The guy is super talented.

I get the financial reasons for wanting to stick to WR, and the fact that playing in the backfield is likely harder on his body, but IMO that sure isn't a good look for him. Complaining because he's being used in ways that help the team but that he doesn't like. I dunno, seems weird to me.

Plus he's the one that has often bragged about doing things that other WRs can't.

My guess is that it comes down to money and nothing more. WRS make more money that RBs and when it comes to contract negotiations they'll definitely look at where he played the most. Kinda like when Jimmy Graham wanted to be paid as a WR with the Saints because he lined up outside so often

Debo wants a top tier receiver contract. The 9ers are balking at paying a hybrid running back/receiver that much money, especially since they are still stuck with Jimmy G's big contract. Debo takes massive punishment playing his hybrid role. He wants a big contract now before injuries diminish his value. A tough situation.
