No it’s not my boat it’s Rob with Connectoutfitters out of pacific city. It is very comfortable to fish out of, but this weekend not so much as the weather and swell were sporty. Definitely sore from getting bounced around in the boat, but definitely worth it.Nice
and I don’t see wooden boats all that often. Is it yours? It looks kinda cool.

Yes that’s a watch window and I will let you know when I head down again and I will reserve a spot for you. The squid fly the coho really liked and unfortunately the mackerel did also. We had some opportunities to cast and strip on a couple rips which was productive but once you hit your limit it’s time to reel up.

Also we fished a waker at the end of the prop wash and had quite a few fish landed with that fly. Including the mackerel which we thought we had run into tuna as we were in the backing quickly. Water temp on on Saturday was between 58 and 60 degrees.

I would go down to Pacific City as the the is more conducive for fly fishing. Not sure if they launch dories from the beach there. But it's not to far away, if you're heading that way send me a note and I can stear you in the right direction.
Sounds like a blast! I’d love to see a couple more views of this squid fly. It’s hard to tell what I’m looking at when I’ve never seen anything quite like it before I don’t think.
Were the mackerel you were running into jack mackerel?

We did this a few years back. Great people great time. Fished from 730ish to noon. We launched right at the beach just north of Pelicans restaurant. We headed out and laid a couple crab pots down first thing. Caught many rockfish. Limited which I believe at the time was 5 or 6 each. We threw many back in the water before reaching our limit. Had a huge ling cod but lost it at the boats edge. On way back we stopped at the crab pots however I think they were different. They had set out the day before perhaps? Anyways had our limit of crab. We were staying near cannon beach at a VRBO for a week. We had fish tacos, crab cakes, crab omelettes, fish and chips that week. Think it covered 7-8 meals for us easily. We fished with 8 weights and integrated fly line w/ 30’ 300 grain sink tips. Teeny 300 ?? Short casts and fed some line. Let the fly sink then strip in… BANG. They can hit hard sometimes.

thx for the TR/post. 3 fishers per trip with the fly ? do you just trade off for casting time??
RRSmith would know, he bought our coastal home on Devils Lake and has become friends with Jack. From 2007 to 2019 I spent many hours anchored alongside Jack in tidewater, who taught me all things King, chatting while waiting for that tug.
