NFR Alcohol going out of style

Getting multiple dui’s will do it. State police know the profiling matrix to focus on for pulling over. Its big business.
When I lived in Wisconsin in a town with an amazing number of bars, the local police were notorious for smearing a line of vasaline on the headlights of cars parked outside the bar, which made those cars easy to identify on the road at night.

For me “the town scene” was the local bars - 3 with live bands 5 days per week - the other part of the “town scene” were the people/friends I would hang with.
I really miss having a local bar "where everybody knows your name" where I would hang out, drink, and shoot pool.

Yeah, I stopped DRINKING back in my mid 20s. To me, "Drinking" and "having a drink" are two different things. Any level of intoxication from "buzzed" on up is very much not my thing. I just enjoy having a tasty beverage. Some of the non-alcoholic beers coming out are decent enough, but still not quite the same. I do drink about a gallon of sparkling water a day it seems, though. Which is why I have it on tap now ;) Turns out I just enjoy a fizzy, bitter beverage.
My wife does all of our shopping and she's awesome about keeping up on the things I like. Last week she informed me that I drink 28-32 cans of sparkling water every week:ROFLMAO:. She also noted that I eat 2.5 pounds of dried mangos/week.

My kegerator and all supplies were $500ish. Paid for itself pretty quickly as I'm paying all of $0.20 per gallon on my sparkling water now vs about $20 or more per gallon on the grocery store stuff. Plus, it tastes so much better.

I think a hell of a lot of parents now tend to not push their children into getting a driver's license simply because of the rather daunting financial impact of insuring a teenage driver.
I have a hard time comprehending the concept of income and costs of necessities. My list of necessities is quite different. My income is SSA only. If Jeanne and I 70 somethings we are had not reconnected after 50 years she would get by but I would be homeless. Both of our health profiles would drop into oblivion. My oldest grandson has a car now. Has a job, lives in a giant home in Co with My daughter and husband and teenage younger grandson. Money not an issue. Just since retiring from a late career 8 years ago necessary job as a sub teacher I got by. You guys change the subject of this thread and I wish you had not, but I will forego deleting this last blather.

I can vouch for this as someone with a 14 y/o boy. We are considering delaying his license for a year or so and definitely until he is ready to help contribute to the bill. The huge additional insurance cost is a factor and the 20+ minute drive from our house to Stadium HS is notorious for accidents. Our neighbor's 19 y/o son just totaled 2 of their cars in the last few months, so that has certainly influenced our thinking on the matter also.

That sounded so healthy, I think I may have caught something. 😳😉😂

I only saw this part. That's 40 minutes I don't spend driving them to football or hoops or 6am jazz band! 😁 I get it though.

Now, the neighbor kid sounds like he might have his own issues besides all the crazy drivers. Like, he's one of them. Maybe not.

I knew a guy in high school that was the coolest dude. He would give me pointers on throwing the discuss, he always had a date (ended up modeling in Italy) and wrecked all 3 of the cars daddy bought for him. 2 of them were collectors. Like a 57 Chevy and really nice 442 Olds.
Some parents don't know when to stop giving so good on you for taking it slow.

I’d say a bigger problem than alcohol with teenagers/drivers are those dumbass cell phones! I should get a break on my car insurance because I’ve never owned a cell phone and never will!!
It’s not your insurance rates are based, it’s the other drivers. (Now I know that is not entirely correct, the town/city/state which you reside plays a big part.)

My son started saving money for a vehicle at 13. I told him I would match him dollar for dollar on anything he wanted. He created his own work ethic, financial responsibility, and cost me $35k for my half in a few short years. Lol
Kid turned out great.

My goodness I’m old school. When I borrowed my friend's car at 17, I found freedom. The open road was my new best friend. About the same time I discovered beer. Many miles and many beers later I’ve gone through several years of sobriety to return to being able to drink responsibly. Next week I’ll be brewing at Gallaghers for the first time in about a year or two. I now enjoy an ale or whiskey responsibly at home. Moderation in all things…

Shout out to the George and Dragon in Fremont, though! Those bartenders are great and the pool table is free! Good food, too. If I lived closer, that would probably be my neighborhood bar.

When I lived in Missoula, circa 1995, it was Charlie's. Back in Montpelier, it was Charlie O's. Like two peas in a pod!

I always get a 'kick' out of discussions about alcohol that come up every 6 months or year. It is valuable time expended to see/feel others experiences/insights and the amount of support from other members. I am also grateful for the respect we give to one another in these discussions. I have yet to see 'my way or the highway' in this thread. By having these types of discussions it may open some eyes to alternatives or provide that extra 'boost' to change ones ways.

Normally these discussions are about changing our from current life styles. They are discussed the most because of individual experiences that have been experienced. From their POV - rightfully so. In many cases, it was because moderation was surpassed/exceeded. Yet the quiet majority I believe is continuing the current lifestyle. In many cases it is the right thing for them. Thank you for respecting others opinions/lifestyles.

At least everyone has been exposed to varying ideas.

There have been some discussions about drugs, pot, and vaping as being safer than alcohol. From my POV, there needs to be further scientific studies that are peer-reviewed with lots more data before statements like that should be treated as fact/gospel.

Moderation is key; that comes down to alcohol. drugs, sex, loud music, fast cars, religion, politics, just about anything we do. Death is about the only thing thing we can not moderate (I think).

I also want to thank all posters on this thread that stayed away of politics. I have had to bite my tongue so many times, it is a bleeding ulcer. But without that, the thread would of been locked so quickly we would all miss out the goodness this thread provided...

BTW: speaking of moderation, the moderation on this site is fantastic. Thank you @Evan B , @Billy , and @Josh !

A basic truism in the human experience is that we truly can not fully change people.
