NFR College Football 2025

Think about this for a minute…when Carson Beck entered college do you think he ever considered that there was a 5th grader that would end up being his #1 target in the CFP semi-final game?

Beck is a 7 year senior and Tony reclassified to go to college early. Tony was 17 when the season started.

Who was keying the QB?

On the TD run by Beck?

I’d have to go back and look at the play to see what O’l Miss was in defensively but inside the 10 almost everyone plays man on the back end and that leaves nobody for the QB. Especially considering how ineffective O’l Miss had been defending the run. All 6 box players would have been filling their gaps and the back 5 were probably playing man free. The “free” player is in the middle of the field and likely at depth so getting outside on run would be impossible.

Williams staying out at UW. Not sure how wanted he is now. Not sure how this will pan out. But his agent dropping him probably had some impact.

Though I wanted Ole Miss last night, it is interesting that this will be the third year in a row with no SEC team in the championship game.
Go Hoosiers!

You have to wonder who he was getting advice from. Maybe family, but also sounds like there were some other influences (maybe with ties to other schools). It sounds like his contract with UW was tight enough that he would have owed UW $4M this year (which I'm sure would have had to be covered by the gaining school) and the gaining school would have had to pay an additional $4M to rev sharing next year. All that would be on top of whatever the gaining school would be paying him to play there, which would have to have been $5M-$6M to get him to leave UW. That means the total cost to the gaining school ends up around $14M for 1 year...no way he was going to get any interest at that amount. Hopefully all schools/conferences are double checking their contract templates now. 2026 should be an exciting year of Husky football...then we get to go through this all again.

Go Hoosiers!!!

I think you are correct. Between his family, namely his dad from what I’ve seen and one particular influencer (think Tennessee QB drama), he got some terrible advice.
I personally love the principle of his agent dropping him. He learned some hard lessons and ate some humble pie. This will be his last year as a Husky, you can pretty much guarantee that.

There obviously needs to be some standardized NIL guidelines, but I’m not sure the weak NCAA is up to that task. They are basically worthless at this point.

The other thing that needs to happen is some regulations over who can represent college players. As of today, anyone on this board or their wife, mom or kids could be an agent. From what I understand, there is also no cap what a person can make for representing a college player on a NIL contract. Some college coaches have commented on the ridiculous contract asks when players are represented by family members.
No regulation on agents is going to bring out some serious scumbags and players will get taken advantage of.
Regulation probably can’t happen unless the players organize, but look what is required to be a NFL player agent. Something like this would weed out a lot of the bad representation.

The NCAA's downfall to this point has been that they have aggressively opposed unionization of the athletes.

I 100% agree. Their opposition and not wanting players to get paid brought us to where we are today. They’ll continue to get their asses handed to them in future court cases should it come to that.
They had a chance to get out in front of things and make them right but sat on their hands. The genie is out of the bottle now and they are basically powerless for the most part.
A interesting read.
