Restaurant Recommendations between Seattle and San Diego

Old town Sacremento is (was) a cool stop. Actually have done it a couple times. Good restaurants. Problem is you end up spending more time there then you plan for because you want to see the next thing around the corner or get lost in the fourth level of a saloon’s basement. 😆. (Last time there was before covid so not sure how much has changed since.)

If you drive down I-5, don't count on rest stops being open south of Stockton (just sayin' as two in a row are closed for remodel). We ate at the Greek Shack in Redding (lamb gyro for me, chicken gyro for my wife); huge gyros, very good!

Granzella's right off I-5 in Williams, CA.

It's a landmark!

I would fish my way down! Don't waste good water. Once you hit the SF bay area you got 2 choices. One is the I5. Along the I5 there is nothing good to eat between SF and LA. If anyone knows different post it up.

The other choice is from SF bay going on 101 which is along the coast more and longer drive but has better places to stop like monterey and carmel with good food. Further south is San Luis Obispo and the apple farm inn is a nice place to overnight and the food is good around there too. Keep going to solvang a toruist stop for good pastries. South of that is Santa Barabara and santa Maria (santa maria tri-tip is there). continuing down the 101 you will make your way back to the I5 heading through Northridge where the best Pastrami sandwich in LA county lives at Brent's Deli. Ask for the sandwich on rye with the bread grilled in a little butter. Brent's can be accessed from the 101 or the 5. Once back on the 5 you are about 2.5hrs to San Diego

You could swing by the Russian River Brewery in Santa Rosa for a delicious Pliny the Elder IPA straight from the teat.

I don't think they serve Malort though.
Mmm, seconded. And thirded cuz I’m gonna drink at least two.

In the san Francisco area and just north:
The Stinking Rose. They actually do flavor their garlic with food.

And the restaurant at the Coppola winery.

Yes both places are out of the way but very worth it.

Also there's Punjabi Burrito, I think its in San Rafael

Since you’ll be there—Get a couple carne asada burritos in San Diego from just about any old place; they’re just superior, can’t explain why.

Pea Soup Andersen’s in Santa Nella. Hefty plates of comfort food in a cute setting.
Agree, it was always a treat when my parents took us north to have some split pea soup.
