So blue, wiggly, with a weighted head. Got it, thanks Brian!
I'd fish that for trout...it is October...View attachment 32933
I stocked a couple of these last night. Marabou tail for movement, with the brown/orange part from an orange bucktail underneath to reduce fouling.
Great pic!!!
It caught trout. My coho trip during the low water fall in which I started this thread (not dissimilar to this year) turned into a trout trip. If only I hadn’t been so disciplined and brought only the salmon rods! I tried for coho but they were lockjaw bastards and so I “switched” and caught searuns on my 11’ 6 weight switch rod. There are worse ways to spend a long weekend.I'd fish that for trout...it is October...
Try stripping those things through the kings. You may be surprised (or you may not, but it's definitely worth a shot).Trying these...

... here in a bit. Fingers x'ed!

Edit: Unsuccessfully swung a few of these past some very spooky chinook. No confirmed coho.

Yup. They pull, and pull, and then pull some more. If bright coho are around, they're always the target.I'll keep that in mind next year when there are kings worth catching. Not that these aren't fun, but they were almost an annoyance with bright coho present (also a different river than the previous post).

We had one year where Last Call's (used to be an Idylwilde tie, now Rio has 'em) and the infamous Sharpe Steelie fly just slayed them on the Kalama. Now I primarily use the below unless the water is dirty, then I roll out anything with a pink bunny or cerise bunny strip.

Anybody else experience Owner SSW hooks bending? This is the second hook to bend that day (maybe a bad batch?).
This caught me a nice coho... and lost me that nice coho. Size 1 Owner SSW hook - it bent out! I partially bent the hook back in place before coming to my senses and cutting it off.

People dont bend their hooks back and reuse them? I find half the utility of thin gauged wire is it coming unbuttoned on logs by bending out and being able to torque it back into shape. This caught me a nice coho... and lost me that nice coho. This here is sage advice. I personally opt for barbless fine wire hooks when fishing coho around heavy structure especially wood. You will eventually break the hook but you will catch more fish with your fly wet and not rigging up exhausting the contents of your fly boxPeople dont bend their hooks back and reuse them? The hookup and fight video was awesome. Heartbreaking when it came off. You could post the 1st 20 seconds which is the good stuff without giving up the spot.
