What are you listening to?

In retrospect, I think the Pumpkins were the best recorded band of that era. The double tracked leads with perfect distortion back track always caught my ear. It reminded me of when I first heard the Boston album -- just a muddier version.
Agreed. Siamese Dream is such a great headphones record.

Yep. All the levels are great. You can hear the vocals, the bass, the drums, and a flood of compressed, multi-tracked guitar distortion.
This might be a hot take, but Black Crowes' Southern Harmony and Musical Companion (1992) is another one of the era with a lot of these features, albeit totally different guitar tones and vox style. Siamese Dream was 1993.

Absolutely one of my favorites of that era, but that album was mic'd better. Those guys were playing without a lot of effects. Hot into the mic and largely recorded as a "live" band.

Right it’s not 25 Les Pauls through a Marshall stack in a closet like Siamese Dream, even though that’s a cool sound. It’s more organic but benefits from the grunge era studio tricks that made things sound so big. Like the drums.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that was a strat on Siamese Dream.
Well what do you know, thanks for educating me. I was clearly speaking off the top of my head.
I had a 1990s 57 reissue myself and it was also stolen! That sorta killed my “career” as a subpar guitarist in fact. I loved that guitar and it pained me physically to lose it.

When I graduated from college in 1991, I spent my first paycheck on a US custom shop sunburst fender '62 reissue strat. I then took it to Dale Bluebond on south street in Philly and had it refretted with bass frets and re-radiused and switched to a 5 position pickup. I was a big SRV fan then!
