Backyard Wildlife

No opportunity for a photo (no camera), but watched a pair of Flickers cleaning-out limbs in a big Cottonwood in Daughter's back yard. They stayed busy in the tree for about 2-1/2 hours with an occasional preening break in the sunshine. 12x binoculars made for excellent viewing.

Been in the new place 3 months and this morning was the first time I've seen deer since I was staking the foundation last spring. Good to see they are getting used to us finally.
As you begin landscaping around your house, it won't be long before you come to regard the numerous deer as pests. They're cute, but oh do they love to sample everything you plant!

Yeah, I'm anticipating issues with raised vegetable beds and other landscaping. Fencing is on the short list of projects and I'm guessing I need taller than 6' to keep them out.

If there are rabbits around, make sure the grid hole size is appropriate too...

The wire mesh I'm looking at has 2×4" openings. That said, I have yet to see a rabbit. Not sure if that's due to being surrounded by thick woods, or the eagles. Squirrels might be the real problem though.

Bunnies can get thru 1"x1" holes. Do not ask why I know...
