Yep, the stoke is high!
Enjoy! I was there today, pretty good conditions at the top of the mountain but there has definitely been too much warm weather for ideal conditions.

I tried to make today into a ski + fishing combo, but the rivers jumped way up on flow and got dirty., so the fishing gear stayed in the truck.

I did a lot skiing at Hyak, tomorrow might be that kind of day:)

Yep, kinda icky, but after 1 run the new skies took me through some early crud with a lot less work than these folk were having to muster. Once packed they carved well too. Really good recomendation from the shop guy.

Kids had lessons so I got 3hrs to get me feet under me before lunch. THIS IS SO COOL!

They showed me what they could do after lunch, and the skis were much better received, and handled, than the snowboards. Good progress today.

They serve a good lunch at Bluewood. Looks like the boys agree.

I tried those M7s last year. They were SWEET. Pretty much a do all ski.
Yes they are nice. Not a trailer slider, but point the tips downhill, square your shoulders, lean forward in your boots and they are great. They seem to encourage you to drive them hard, and the harder I drove them the better they got.

I've always been a sack lunch guy, but lodge fries rock.
Surprised there were no hooks in the lodge, must be a thing of the past.

A friend and I skied White Pass today. Groomers only, un-groomed was very stiff because it rained a day or so before. We had a great day and the sun was out for some of the runs. Blue was hanging out at the base of the Couloir Express lift most of the morning. My buddy wanted me to take his (her?) picture so I backed up and unzipped the upper pocket of my jacket. When it heard the zipper, it walked to me and looked up with big eyes, hoping I had a snack. When I didn’t have anything, it moved on.

No pics, but I skied Cabin Creek again yesterday; 20km and change under sunny skies. Conditions were nice, but they could sure use more snow, especially the lift areas. The new boots worked great.

Feeling better each trip up. Easy to ski groomed and packed runs today. A bit of a lift line but hill seemed quiet. 1000001660.jpg1000001662.jpg

OMG!

I had the oldest on the triple nickel yesterday for his first lift ride. Used the bar and my poles like a seat belt. We had the whole safety talk, and will again and again. These pastimes of ours, skiing, boats, wading, whatever, are dangerous, and if we aren't safe there are consequences. My prayers go out.

That’s too bad. Hope they are okay. As I age, I appreciate the safety bars on the White Pass chairlifts. Hopefully the new lift at Bluewood they will install this summer will have them. Heights and exposure never bothered me during my mountaineering days earlier in life, but they do know.

Wow, that's terrible. I've certainly felt uncomfortable on some chairlifts with slippery seats and chairs that weren't well balanced, but can't say that the ones at Bluewood have ever felt that way?

Silver Mountain was pretty good yesterday, at least the higher elevation areas. I made the mistake of skiing all the way down to the bottom of Chair 4 once, and it was pretty icy/crusty. I didn't hike Wardener, but took the traverse to some nice powder, which was fun.

Wax geek report: Spring conditions expected tomorrow at Cabin Creek so it's 50/50 yellow/graphite. I was fairly seriously into racing for a while, and racers are OCD about waxing. Nice homemade waxing bench! I finally broke down and bought a roto brush this year; should have done so decades ago....

I’ll show your setup to my friend who owns a cabin near Mazama and is into skate skiing.

I raced for years, and worked in a Nordic ski shop too! 13 year old races now…
Careful with that roto, you can hammer the bases quick!!

I wasn’t aware of that; thanks for the warning.

Spring skiing my heinie. ‘Beautiful blue sky from N Bend to the pass, then back into the grey dank. One of my companions skied up Amabalis until he got above the clouds at around 3800’. We need snow!
