SFR Support your local fly shop

Sorta fishing-related

I’ve been a customer at Avid since around 2006. I recently went on a trip to MT and took my brother into the shop before we went as he wanted to buy stuff he can’t get in Dubai. He had a great time chatting with Sam and Joe and left being well impressed.

Fast forward a week and having left Craig I realised I was a pillow down, no big deal until my wife told me it was $300!!!! Fucking hell, I could not believe a pillow could cost that much and wanted it back to avoid death.

Turns out Avid had a trip there as I spoke with Headhunters in Craig and so maybe they could bring it back? Ryan asked Mark who did the honors and today I have my pillow. Mark did not want a gratuity which was class and so I’ll just have him guide me on the Yak sometime 😀

Anyway, yet another reminder that it pays to support your local shop.

Thank you Mark!

I'm still reeling from the 300.00 pillow...
Shit...that's 1/5th of a new spey rod.

:)

Glad you got the pillow back.

Yeah, makes fly gear seem cheap 😀 so me too. So somehow when I sleep. I wrestle/mangle/destroy pillows. This is the first one I have not destroyed after a yr. In fact it is still the same. And the others were quite expensive too so I guess I’m up now…

What fucking pillow costs $300 bucks?
The last pillow I bought was $35.00, the most expensive at Kohls was $159 which seams ridiculously over priced!
Like you I’m stunned, I’ll ask but as noted it is the first pillow that has remained vaguely pillow shaped in a very long time.

Dang, must be an incredible pillow! The fact that you asked them to retrieve your $300 pillow & the fact that they did! Incredible!

Here's a pillow...
At 1500 bucks, it's about the same cost as a new Sage Spey Rod...but would get used more often.
:)

My wife bought a couple sets of $400 Egyptian cotton blah blah blah sheets a while back. They are nice but my God I'm sleeping. I don't notice them.

Pillow talk…harumph! Did you catch any trout on this trip, @Dave Boyle? Howzabout a report, eh?
Aye, er, well, pending likes.....Meant to do it but then went to the Methow last Friday for a steelhead nymphing orgy where no pillows were harmed or left behind....Craig trip is most worthy of a report though.

What I've learned from this thread:

1. Avid is a great fly shop;
2. It's a damned good thing I don't have to shop for pillows and sheets.
Good start Salmo, I will add

3. We are delusional to think we are fooling our wives not knowing the cost of fishing gear while they buy all sorts of shite that is high priced and we are clueless to it. That is is why they don't care :) Streets ahead of us (as usual).

$300. Is it by chance conducive for any other activity outside of sleeping while you're away from home? Substitute something or other...?
No in the couch manoeuvres going on 😀 I just wreck normal pillows as I sleep with an arm under them as I sleep. My missus got really annoyed as I ruined them. This fancy one is still doing great, odd for sure but I do not care.
