Skateboard shops face the same pressures; it's even worse when the majors sell online, competing against your interests.
I suggested my local skateshop form and buy thru co-operative buying power...
and develop private label.

This one hit home for me as an ex niche/hobby retail small business owner of a long established spot. Everything in this is spot on. The stress, anxiety, and frustration ended up being more than I could handle and luckily I was able to find a buyer and get out. I made it a bit over 5 years after I took over (Business was 30 years old). Props to those who are able to keep their heads down and keep looking for solutions. The pessimist in me says that all the large suppliers really don't give a shit about any of the small retailers, but maybe that was just the industry I was in.
 
Hang in there man! Just recieved an order today from your shop I placed the other day, lickity split turnaround and just what I needed along with the nice thank you note as always. Keep up the good work!

Margin erosion sucks, corporate big guys only care about short term results, quarterly financials, blah, blah, blah.
