What's in your cast iron tonight?

Love that stuff...
Everything about it is great.
:)

A lifetime ago I got this recipe from a guy on the old site. The wife and I have been together since we were 17 years old. We go married at 19 when I was in the Air Force. We learned how to make ends meet, and over time got to really enjoy the less costly of foods. This pon is served with navy beans over fried potatoes and onions. This is something we really look forward to, only problem is at 75 years old the weight of the cast iron is about all I can handle and way more then the wife can. Corn bread is just not the same if it’s not cooked in cast iron so I do the cooking.
I think I have found a solution to the weight problem with the cast iron. I just picked up three Wagner two are Sidney which are much lighter.

I can finally contribute!

One of the best things about being back in Oregon is the copious public land and many upland game birds. I had a hell day at work, went and shot a ruffed grouse and two mountain quail, and there they are!

I used mine this morning to fry sliced potato's for breakfast (plus bacon and eggs). I have a few pans that used daily and Dutch Ovens that get used when I go camping.

So I made my first pone of cornbread in my new to me 8 inch dia Wagner Sidney. Had it with some green beans and purple home grown potatoes. Don’t rag on me over my France china.

Sorry there is 4 slices of bacon in the pot as well, that were fried with the onions before adding the chicken stock, and green beans.

I was only kidding. Everything looked delicious, especially that corn bread!

Was camping on the Selway last week. Made a full pan of stir fry on my cast iron wok and another evening did pulled pork enchiladas in the #10 Dutch Oven. Good eating.
Ok I need some help one of my Wagner pans had some crust inside and I put it in my wood burning stove and let it get cherry red hot. I let the stove cool over night but when I remover it from the stove it had very light rust, see pic. What am I doing wrong?

Worked a shift at the hospital and I’m on call until 7. Here’s the star of Christmas dinner. Simmering some steak Oaxaca to put in some enchiladas with homemade New Mexico green chile sauce (made yesterday, and it’s fantastic!)
