He is correct. A trout spey has no place on large fish.. period.@Paige I see you have no respect for the forum rules and have doubled down on your disrespectful and ignorant statements. Please, kindly unfollow me - I don't have the time or patience for cowards behind their keyboards.
There are plenty of articles supporting both sides of the argument. However, today's ultra-light setups can handle bigger fish without putting undue strain on the fish or the resource. I personally designed this rod to be used for both trout and steelhead—the composites used today have enough backbone to reel in a Boeing 777, let alone a large fish.He is correct. You build rods? What blanks are you using?Nah, I'm just Dan...a guy that fly fishes. The FFD Rod Company is my own business, building custom fly rods using locally sourced components by local rod builders.
I have a fly rod business - having a YouTube channel gave me the unique opportunity to design a fly rod and partner with two local rod builders to bring my vision to reality. The first series (FFD series) had the new fly fisher in mind, price point driven and uses a reliable/proven medium-fast action blank from South Korea, my second series of fly rod uses a rod blank from North Fork Composits and all components are locally sourced (making the rod more expensive). You build rods? What blanks are you using?
A sign (from above) of an entertaining thread.
I think bass fishing is a lot of fun—it gives you something to do when the weather is too warm for trout fishing. Although I’ve driven through Soap Lake, I’ve never really taken the time to think much about that specifically - I'm usually trying to drive through that town as fast as I can, on my way to Dry Falls. The important question for our new member @FlyFishDan is what are your thoughts on bass fishing and Soap Lake women?
Not to mention the added time it took for you to make your commentary...I am sorry I wasted a bit of my life reading this incomprehensible nonsensical thread.
I'll never be on the same level as Todd Moen or be as funny as Hank...but I might learn you a few nuggets of fly fishing stuff and thingsOh shit! Now I'm going to have to go search YT for this FFD guy in order to understand what the hell is going on this morning. If he's making fishing videos, I hope he knows he's got Todd Moen and Hank Patterson in front of him.
You designed it huh. Can you tell me how many wraps of material there are in the bottom of its tip section? Or tell me the taper of your 3rd mid section? There are plenty of articles supporting both sides of the argument. @Rob Allen Yes, I designed it, but I leave all the specific details to two established, local custom rod builders with over 60 years of combined experience to ensure it's a reliable, high-performing, and long-lasting product. Sales and marketing might not be in your wheelhouse, judging by the snarky response. We’re all entitled to our opinions on what gear should be used to catch a steelhead; I'll do me...and you do you.You designed it huh. Understand I don't want the information but if I did could you tell me?
I disagree with you about light rods.. you should always use the heaviest rod reasonable regardless of your preference for lighter rods.. 5 minutes is an extremely long time to fight a steelhead..
