I use a shit ton of epoxy on my rods to be sure that NEVER happens - and you're right, I probably wouldn't post it if one did fall off...LolJust guessing, but if Flyfish Dan ever has the reel seat of one of his own rods fall off you wouldn't be watching it happen on a YouTube video.I've had a number of firearm related issues while fishing and know how he felt. Had some dudes open up with automatic weapons shooting into the Skagit river (and toward the South Skagit Hwy) about 20yds in front of me as I was walking out of a steelhead run a couple years ago. Quite a shock, going from utter silence to armageddon. Stray bullets have also hit trees near me in years past. I knew the jokers on the Skagit hadn't seen me, but in the other cases you always wonder if it's a psycho shooting at you or just a stray/careless shot. Nothing against responsible hunters, but there are also a lot of nutjobs with guns running around out there. And IMO they're far more prevalent and dangerous than Grizzly will ever be - at least in WA.
I once had a puppy that was also very needy. Thankfully he was able to grow out of it.I'm only a big deal in my household...even there, I have my doubts. Lol
It's a ton of work for sure, but I do enjoy telling the story. I take breaks from time to time and just fish.In all seriousness, I dunno how some of y'all do it video taping a bunch of your outings, then editing, then posting. I have enough issues just taking a pic or two on occasion....shoot, I'll go entire trips without taking a single photo of a fish (in spite of plenty caught).
I've read your comment about 10 times and still can't figure out what it is that means...but I am familiar with the ticks, wolves, trolls, etc. from my time on YouTube. Fortunately, the good far outweigh the bad...the bad just sticks around longer than it should.Well, this thread got to a “normal” Superman forum style conclusion in a hurry…
Bring on the ticks, wolves, etc.
Growth looks different for everyone, and we all get there in our own way.I once had a puppy that was also very needy. Thankfully he was able to grow out of it.
Nah @DanielOcean ...that actually made me laugh! Lol@FlyFishDan Your aren't going to go calling me out for comparing you to the reading rainbow guy are ya?
Wait till February.I was just thinking how the board has been sorta boring lately. We all get along too well and are mostly well mannered enough. Something interesting needed to happen. Welcome, Dan. You have definitely got a good hold of the YT algorithm and that requires a lot of investment in constantly putting stuff out there. I couldn’t handle it all the time but I see the work put in. As far as needs, everybody needs to make a living and going fly fishing ain’t a terrible way to do it if you can swing it I suppose.
@Matt B I appreciate that! It does take a lot of work, and it's just a side hustle for me. My full-time job, along with family and friends, keeps me pretty busy. I’ve learned to manage my time by creating several videos during a single afternoon trip, which helps keep the workload manageable. The troll comments are easier to ignore when so many people reach out to say I’ve helped them in some small way. It’s pretty cool.I was just thinking how the board has been sorta boring lately. Or his cow…Hey @FlyFishDan (assuming this is you and not Dan's mom coming to his defense) I'd like to say welcome to forum! Ive seen some of your videos, and they are fine. Sorry you got shot at!
@Ceviche try not to be a neanderthal...try harderOr his cow…
@Ceviche nice recovery, my wife is my best friend, so that was a bit offensive...I won't be promoting myself here on this forum, I do that enough on YouTube, FB and IG. However, I will defend myself against ignorant trolls who bring it up on their own. Thanks for being a part of my channel and I am happy to hear you've gotten a few nuggets out of it here and there. All good!Or his cow…
That wasn’t nice.
Okay. I get the fact that FFD is doing his thing on YouTube. I even subscribe to it and even enjoy his enthusiasm. I actually think what he does positively promotes fly fishing in general.
I also acknowledge the necessity of a degree of self-promotion needed to succeed with YouTube. Still, given my own propensities toward very nerdy appreciation of fly presentation in a specific fishery, I dig that side of his content—when he does that. That helps my game. So I don’t know if all the deriding is completely deserving.
That said, if FFDan wishes to hang out here, I think he neither ought to promote himself here or receive harassment. After all, my thought is that we’re all here to share good and positive thoughts, opinions, and experiences.

You know what they call people who don't promote themselves within the fly fishing industry?Looks like we both managed to bail both our asses out of a collective sling. Yes, I deleted my “very tart” reply, shortly after I saw yours. Respect. It’s important to be both honest and thoughtful.
I will agree with you that this not the place where promoting one’s self—for whatever reason—is going to get well received.
PNWFF’ing has a very “particular” history.
It started organic and a bit anarchic—but one grown out of and with a grass-root community and of one that pre-dates the current name (the “ur” name that shall not be named!). That old vibe remains.
I think that I may be in a position to speak for some of the “previous timers” that: everyone is welcome, but the landing here is never without at least some “texture” on the tarmac.
The point is that kindness, niceness, and generosity are the keys. That’s how I was received, way back by this same community (the pre-PNWFF name era and into now), back around 20(?) years ago, when I started out. So I do my best to do the same.
God, I learned so much from everyone back then! So many quiet teachers here then and now.
What I’m trying to say is that: who you were or are before walking in the door matters less than how you are once inside. So, welcome. And please share.
Now I have the reading rainbow song stuck in my head. Thanks.@FlyFishDan Your aren't going to go calling me out for comparing you to the reading rainbow guy are ya?
