Tuna 2024

Ha, I wasn’t going to say anything, but I’m totes with Evan on this. 2 minutes a side on a barely functioning propane camp stove might be acceptable, not seared but medium. 2 minutes a side on a blazing hot pan for searing is going to be some well done tuna. Which can be okay, too. If I’m going to cook my tuna well I like it poached in olive oil.

I am being somewhat serious here. I know we all have our own way we like things, but 2min on high heat for a 1" piece of albacore sounds excessive.
Ya got me. I’ve been doing it on an old camp stove. My kitchen doesn’t have a fan, just a stupid over-the-stove microwave that sucks it in and blows it into your eyes, so I cook fish outside.

I’ve updated the recipe.

Took my new to me 12 weight to the park to lawn cast it yesterday strung up with a Cortland Billfish 50 Plus fly line. This is only the second time I've had this outfit out. I was BS'ing with a neighbor who lives across the street from the park while casting and felt something while stripping the line back in. Huh! I have a new line coming my way. Cortland was superb to work with as was the fly shop where I bought the line.

What a day. Never seen anything like that. First troll rod was let out and hooked up as soon as it was put in the rod holder. Never really let up after that.

That was definitely the first time on my boat where we had to make deliberate attempts to stop fishing and catch up on chores before bringing more over the rail. The bottleneck on a small boat / small crew like mine definitely becomes that whole part of it.

I legitimately think we could've been done within an hour with our 22 fish if we didn't stop to take care of the bleeding / gutting / icing a few times. The gutting and head removal is pretty crucial for maximizing space in the tote and cutting down on extra weight.

Now I'm sitting here with my coffee, lamenting my next few hours of processing 😂 looking forward to my first fresh poke bowl of the season though.

As for the fly rod, I honestly forgot it at home. I definitely could have caught fish on it yesterday, but as usually happens, things were hectic and I was having fun casting my jigs. I'll get around to it on one of these trips again soon 😂

Outstanding! I would love to have my own boat for days like that.

Unless my eyes are deceiving me, you're trolling FAST with the big motor. How fast?
