What's in your vise?

sobering evening at the vise tonight....

1/0 up front, 2 in the back.

Bucktail, craft fur, some kreelex and flashabou. Large lead eyes and stacked and trimmed head. I went a little quick and didn’t trim the head as well as I’d like to have. It comes in at about 7” but still should be no problem on my 8wt

I’m enjoying this flies, here’s to hoping they fish just as well. I’m going to be needing some new bucktail. Curious about the squimpish hair as well.13B7F007-0674-4317-A226-4F6AE9FB684F.jpeg

I just got red beads so I tied one olive willy for yesterday and after no boobie love this got fish after a few casts and kept working. 20220302_080504.jpg
I really need a new pheasant skin, and don't have one dyed yellow for sure, so not getting carried away yet. The brown simiseal leach was better so I thought I'd mix the two.

My best pheasant skins are road kill those old roosters are hard to get but in the spring they get a little careless.

My son and his dog get a bunch, so I may clean some skins., or I may just order some. I saw some I liked on the fly fish food site.35333.jpeg

I notice a very large difference in feather quality in pheasants, I can go many years between really high quality skins from hunting. A story: many years ago I shot a really nice pheasant and I was thinking about taxidermy. I had made a comment to my dad about it, while I was at work he stopped by and plucked all of the rump feathers for large spey flies. I guess it saved me some money!
