Probably should have bought a CRJ-900. Oh and also bought Greenland.
Good quality products but their clothing never fit me right…pants, shirts, sweatshirts, everything was just a bit off so I stopped buying a while ago.
Good for him for putting his money where his mouth is and hopefully it actually does en up benefitting the environment.
The cynical side of me sees the marketing side of this and some of the hypocrisy but not easy to run a business of that size and at some point contradict yourself. It’s also easy to reimagine capitalism after your net worth gets above $1B…do as he says not as he does.

I thought his net worth was in the company and he doesn't have it anymore? Guy was a dirtbag climber eating discount canned food and was never really comfortable with having lots of money, as I understand it.

I can't understand the hate. And the flippant comments about what he really does from people who have no clue about the man. If you know something share it. Just don't make up stories about his badness because you dislike Patagonia or whatever it is that is irritating you.

Joking around aside.... A lot of people realize later in life.. or earlier, that you can't take it with you so many companies/people do this, and they do what makes them happy and fulfilled with their life's work. But who really thinks this guys gonna be eating rice and beans and living in a trailer. He's most certainly set up for life with everything he could possibly want or need.

I've worked in the apparel industry for about 10 years now and it is a dirty industry. Lost of places just destroy old inventory and returns. Its just more profitable that way.
Patagonia does well by building good quality products that last a long time. They have also started refurbishing and selling used gear when they can. For the size of the company I think they do just about as well as can be done to be sustainable. That their profits now go to a good cause is just icing on the cake.

Likely not a more employee respected CEO in the business - one of the very first to offer paid materinity for both mothers and fathers, on-site day care for employees children, flex time for employees so they don't have to use vacation days,gives employees up to two months of full pay if they use that time to work with environmental groups.
Over the decades, Patagonia has given away more than 140M to enviromental causes, much of it for watershed protection in the US, Chile, Germany, Czech Republic, the UK, etc, etc.
And now, while the other rich boyz buy spaceships and yachts, the company founder who started out as an independent blacksmith making hand made climbing carabiners, is giving his billion $ biz to an enviromental stewardship trust.
as to the hater pile on...no surprise, it's all they got.
