Yves has also been a surfer since the late 50's, incorporating his love of both fly fishing and surfing with many trips to remote islands and atolls in the south pacific to chase waves and bonefish, and would gift his surfboards, fly rods clothes and gear to the islanders, leaving in his typical shorts, t-shirt and sandals (friend of mine went with him on such a trip). His son Fletcher is a noted surfboard builder who was an early adopter of epoxy construction to extend the use years of his boards.
When the Indonesia tsunami wreaked havoc, Yves immediately chartered boats that could reach the smaller port towns that were destroyed, sending them in loaded to the waterline with food, water and medical supplies, and did so for two years afterwards, all out of his own pocket.
