My Dad was a knife guy, he always had a pocket knife on him, he kept everything sharp including Mom's kitchen knifes. Guess it was instinctive as he was a machinist and sharp cutters, bits & drills work better.

I still carry his old hunting knife during deer/elk season. It's a Western Cutlery fixed blade belt knife he picked up in Denver on his way from Missouri while heading to Seattle in the 1940s.

Here it is with his hand tooled sheath. I keep it razor sharp & good2go

My Dad had the exact knife.

Classic.

I do the same rawhide tensioning safety system on my knives. Thats the only drawback to that style of sheath, IMHO.

Thanks for the Memories.

My grandfather bought one of those in California for his son in law, my dad a Marine, before he shipped out for North Korea . He wanted a Kabar but a Western was all he could find do the high demand of knives of the troops shipping out. the knife made the landing on Inchon as well the trip to Chosen Reservoir and made it home with him. He carried it hunting for 40yrs. and is now carried by my son.

Wow, now that's kinda amazing.

Don't know what got me thinking about that old knife this morning, was just sitting by the fireplace drinking my morning coffee & thought I should go get Dads knife....
