YOLO! - FlyBillz' First Bamboo Build

You will be doing a lot more work as we move through this adventure together. This is only the second time I've helped someone make a bamboo fly rod. You won't believe the feeling that you get when you cast a rod that you made from culm to fly rod.
Hold on Bill the fun has just begun.

I'm pretty good at delegating! And a bit LOUD at times! Looking forward to it! Fish on!!

Life is good for this Jedi Master! Or Sith! The force is strong in this one.. now where did that drone go?!? WALTROUS!! Maybe he is the real TRAVERS.. OR WW.. wild Wayne?!?

Bill's next step is to make the two half culms on the right (tip and base) look like the split ones to the left side. Each half culm will render 12 strips which only 6 of those will be needed for the tip and another 6 for the base sections. One step at a time.

I have so many questions, but I'll limit it to the one that interests me the most. How do you guage which weight fly line the rod is rated for? Is this predetermined before the actual build? Two questions, I guess.

It's all about the taper and resulting action you choose. Most are in the 4/5 wts that i have at least. I usually play with different lines and see what works best for me.

In general, and other can chime in if I'm wrong the line weight goes up as the butt section gets thicker and a little bit due to the length. Babies got back! It ain't rocket science since I can do it! Lol!!

I'll bring some setups down when I head down your way if you're interested! Cheers!
