So the morning started out fairly simple, drive up to a local lake, throw the water master in and start fishing. The fun part was not 50 feet from the put in I nailed this pig.

Then it got weird. I looked back at the launch where my truck was, and I saw something in the water. At first, I really couldn’t make out what it was, but all of a sudden it dawned on me. It’s a deer. Sure enough there was a Whitetail doe swimming across the lake. Why? I have no idea, sadly I didn’t take any pictures only video. And as far as I can tell, I can’t put video on this site but take my word for it. It happened.
The morning continued with a couple more big fish to the net and a few that got away too soon. But all in all, it was a fun morning, even if it was 34° when I put in.

Roper - Back when we lived in Port Orchard, I stopped by Kitsap Lake's south end boat launch to look for fish rising. I could see this thick tree branch partially submered but the branch was somehow headed towards me. It was a big blacktail buck. Very cool.

Nice trout!!

I have seen moose and their babies, elk and deer all take a dip in lakes I have fished.

I marvel that they can actually swim. I actually stop fishing just to take it all in.

I much prefer watching moose swim than being being charged by moose on RC (twice).

I was striped bass fishing out of Annapolis one time, and while heading across the Chesapeake to the spot, we came across a doe swimming west, trying to make the full crossing for some reason. I suspect the deer didn't make it, because it was maybe 3-4 miles from shore already, and had maybe 4-5 miles to go in some choppy water, but it might have done it. It wasn't looking super thrashed or anything, just cruising along. It definitely got in the water and kept going without fully being able to see the other side, it's damn wide there.

I have seen deer swim across the Columbia up in the Reach. They did rest for a bit when they made land.

I forgot about my last trip on the river in The Reach. We saw three large bull elk on one of the islands and literally dozens of does with fawns on islands. The boat's captain suggested the does swim out to the islands to give birth away from coyotes.

RL gotcha covered. Screen shots from your video below. Btw confirmed that was a fish that jumped at the end. If you freeze and drag, you can watch it come out of the water.

OP didn't say how how big the lake was. The question that came to my mind, was the deer escaping from a predator

Except my buddy saw a coyote swim across the river last time he was out on the reach. 1730211944702.png

And this is what I saw last time I was fishing. At least he left my bag with my lunch alone.

I have watched mulies, whitetails, and moose swim across the Spokane River many times...those big hollow hairs are built in PFDs.

I saw a doe swimming down the Nestucca River at the Yellow House Hole 90 degree turn. She swam about a hundred yards with the current, got out, ran back across the pasture to the top of the run, waded in and did it again. I watched another swim a half mile across Oregon's Cultus Lake in the 70's.
