NFR World Cup

The US played a terrific match. The defense we are a bit worried about was solid. Another record was set Friday night that to me was the most impressive of all. Chris Richards set a new WC record for the most passes completed with a 100% correct passing rate.

He was 83-83. For those of us who have played this sport and especially at a high level understand how insanely good that is. Richards is a freaking stud.

See ya all Friday!!!!

That is a truly impressive stat. I only saw highlights of the game and of course they don’t show solid defensive play so he was hardly seen.

The shock value of the US actually playing well was quickly eclipsed by the Australia - Turkey result!

Last time I watched a World Cup was in the mid 80's in a fest tent outside Langgoens Germany. Mexico and Germany came up as the next match as we walked in.. the 2 Texans in my group started loudly rooting for Mexico ... we didn't stay long

How about former champions, and co-favorites (along with France) to win this World Cup, Spain (3rd in World rankings) vs all time World Cup debutant Cape Verde (64 in World rankings)? An onslaught by Spain that could not get past a masterclass by Cape Verde 40 year old goalkeeper despite 27 shots and 7 saves! Part of the magic of the world cup, no matter how big, powerful or rich you are, at the end it is 11 vs 11 and anything can happen!

My wife’s family is from Norway and they all live in Norway. Unfortunately she is the only one born in the USA. Or else she could get dual citizenship. But oh my. They are so sold on Norway being a contender this year. When I look up their roster and players bios they have a point. Norway is a dark horse contender due to having one of the best players in the world, Eerling Haaland, Thor!!! Plus some other excellent players. This is actually fun getting involved. I watch the last half or so of Egypt vs Belgium. Somehow I got invested in this sport I never cared for much. 🤣 . Enjoying this little interest.

USA vs. Aussies

😀

Good game, but that last 20 minutes was ugly. Just really disjointed. They gotta keep playing to win, just don't seem to have a kill the clock coast mode yet.

The Aussies remind me of the Rams...

Good, but can't win on the road in Seattle

:D

I'm not sure where this one should go...

I'm not a soccer guy, but turned it on during work to see the 2nd half. US can't be super happy with the passing and overall play in the 2nd half, but the Aussies gotta be sick that they didn't convert at least one of those scrambles. A win is a win.
Both sides were dead tired by the end. Awesome atmosphere!

First off, thanks for hosting a fantastic event. I went to the last game of the 1970 World Series and it was not near the rocking going on at Lumen yesterday.

Now as to the match itself. The US played terrific in the first half. Tons of patience and smart play. The second half was more of a slugfest. But guess what? Kept the clean sheet. Not every match is going to be as beautiful as the first half against Paraguay. Remember our opponents get a say in how things go too. And for the record Paraguay beat Turkiye last night 1-0 despite giving up 32 shots and playing down a man the entire second half.

US wins the group!!!!

Today's sports news was saying the aussies are complaining bigly about the officiating.
I was a certified USSF ref for a number of years. During the match I thought the ref was too lenient with not carding the Aussies several times sooner than he did. I rewatched it yesterday when I got home. All in all he did an ok job but he for sure could have carded the Aussies more than he did. Any whining about the ref by Aussie fans is sour grapes.

I also thought the AU team should have been carded sooner & more frequently…they tried to bully the USA players like it was Aussie football…
