Since I was old enough to understand what taxes were and what they were for they have been regarded as too high by every generation. They are higher today than ever it seems and will be higher next year and the year after that. But every generation wants better roads with no potholes, water when they turn on the faucet, electricity when they flip the switch, cheap gas, groceries on the shelves at the supermarket, mail delivered promptly and all the other accoutrements of modern civilization. The cost of all this infrastructure is enormous and we have to pay it. There is a further cost of maintaining a military strong enough to protect what we consider our birthright since 1776, many countries would like to take it away from us.
With citizens of our own country attempting s coup and trying to replace democracy with oligarchy or dictatorship we have far more important things to vote for than low gas taxes. A few more cents on a gallon of gas will inconvenience most of us but it is not the end of the world. Gas is not an infinite resource and as it reaches the end of it's availability it's price will rise dramatically. Some gas pumps are already being built with an extra digit in the price per gallon window anticipating gas over $10.00 a gallon.
Get used to it-you haven't seen anything yet!
