NFR Why do people in the country back in to park, and in the city they pull in?

The way I park depends on what I'm doing. At Home Depot I pull in with either the truck or the van because whatever I'm buying will go in the back.
I am unafraid of backing out of a parking space. I go slow until I can see clearly and listen for honking. Most folks stop for the big white whale of a van backing out because they either want my space or fear for their life and their itsy bitsy little car.

Most dickheads that back in or pull through never seem to get their vehicle in the space far enough and leave the other end out in the traffic lane. Or they do just the opposite and take up two spaces.

My wife is a parking lot circler. Drives me fucken nuts.

True that. I am from a very small little town in eastern WA and learned to drive and took my driving test using my dad's long-bed 3/4 ton. Same was true for most of my friends, we all had pickups because we grew up "in the woods."

I parallel park pretty well. Might be because of driving those late -60s bulgemobiles. Had to learn the geography of those 4 distant corners to put one of those hulks into a space only 2' longer than the car.

I sometimes even look for the tightest spots just to show it can be done.

I'll bet the people who are next to "nut" or "butt" are super appreciative as well. Maybe they just stand there in awe....
 
I once had a 14' Rubber boat on a Trailer. I would practice with it in my drive way so I wouldn't make an ass of myself out in public. I got half way good doing that, Forward about 20 years I had my ATV on a trailer. I had to back it up one time. I sucked. I sold the ATV and the trailer. Now I look for a handicap spot to park so I can hobble into the local Wally World and drive all over the store on an electric cart.

That was a test to see who was paying attention. Good job, you passed.

Sitting in the coffee shop watching people try to parallel park is a great way to spend the morning. I bet 20% of folks tap the car behind 'em.
 
In Hawaii, you can always tell who lives here vs who is a tourist. Locals always back in, transplants nearly always back in, tourists always go in head first. And tourists are the only ones who honk their horns.

You can tell before they even put it in reverse, this is going to fail. But when I met my wife she was in the same boat. I gave her a few pointers (after we were married about ten years and she started to listen to me) and now she's a pro at it. So there's hope, they just need a little help. Not saying cross the street and offer it though....

Yup. Parking stall standards are smaller in Bham than Whatcom County.

No. The shack nasties usually refer to when we all start bitching and bickering. I don't see that here. What's the issue?
 
Well for one think here I don't like to park on a curb. I could do it if I had to but being I'm from the country, I prefer to just pull into a parking spot. Here in the other third world country, Montana. All us farmers and fisherman like to just pull into a parking spot. Backing out is no problem as there isn't any traffic to stop you from backing out. Evan when I lived close to Seattle, I never waster any of my time there. Don't like traffic or traffic jams.
