Keeping my old Swede pops family tradition going of having pickled herring every Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Not as easy to find now with many of the local fish markets no longer in business. Used to buy a big tube of it for each holiday every year from Sandy’s on Greenwood. This will work though to keep the tradition going.
Anyone else like to eat pickled bait?

I like it…I also like anchovies & canned sardines and most small dead fish…
Brian -
I worked at Subbase, Bangor for about seven years, I can't remember who it was in the office that brought pickled herring in every year about this time; they were delicous. I bought a jar at a supermarket; awful. ;-)
Brian -Likewise.
I always have cans of sardines around here.
Pat,
I agree, the store bought jar stuff isn’t as good. I had some for lunch though.
There used to be a Scandinavian specialty shop on Market that had great pickled herring, but it is closed now as well.
I’ll need to find a new place to get my fix….

With ice cream, whipped cream, or cheddar cheese?Just finished, to bring over to our friends' place. They're hosting this year, but we've shared Thanksgiving with them since our kids were all little.
A little bittersweet - for the first time, none of the kids are home to join us - they're all grown up and out of town!
Very sad. We'll have to console ourselves by eating all of the granny smith flat apple pie by ourselves

Find a brick of Cabot Creamery Seriously Sharp. You won't regret it. I find my kitchen severely wanting without some. And have since I left VT some 50 years ago.I guess I'm gonna have to try it with cheddar then!
