It wasn’t ideal, but I used strips of the plastic sheet the eyes came stuck to.

A piece of mono
Melt a ball on one end and flatten with bodkin handle before it cools
Glue a flat eye onto the flattened end being careful to align it on an axis so it is straight when mounting
Coat with head cement
Tab eye

Will be interested to see how the plastic holds up since the eyes aren’t glued down to the materials if I interpreted your original post correctly.

Two pieces of mono side by side has been what I’ve been doing, but not flatten it. That’s a good tip.

You’ve got it right. They eyes are glued to the plastic and sit over the material. The plastic tab is then tied onto the shank, then glued for extra security.
Im going to tie and destruction test a smaller one (these eat a lot of materials) to see how it holds up, but already it seems more secure than gluing onto the hair per usual.

It flattens really flat and allows for easier gluing
Just check the alignment so they come out as a pair of eyes

I’m not a big fan of gluing onto the hair or to dubbing. Just seems like it’s temporary. Watching Enrico Puglese do eyes is totally different

I use the Tear Mender usually like this:
I’m flattening the tip of the head
That effects the action so I don’t use it on everything. This produces a flat spot to which I mount the eyes

That is a good idea.
I like it because it stays somewhat pliable versus a glue that hardens.

I've played around with that hook. I'd really like to get a musky on it to really get a feel for how strong it is (personally).
Hook: TMC 8089 #6
Tail: Silicone legs Chartreuse, yellow/black, olive/black
Collar: deer hair
Body: olive over black over yellow deer
eyes: 6 mm gold
Front legs: silicone legs pulled through with a needle
Weed guard: 20# mason hard mono
Coated the bottom and face of the fly with Softex
I think it depends on if you're after a thinner profile or not. If you are, then you can glue the eyes to both the material and the hook shank (and the thread base there). That's how I roll with my musky stuff that has eyes and as long as I get them even, it doesn't affect the action at all plus they're super durable. But, you've gotta use locktite gel (or something gel) or it sucks. That said, the majority of my fish come on eyeless patterns (which I also fish probably 80+% of the time)>
Still figuring out the round-ish coated head thing....got something in the works with an IG "friend" across the country.
It does seem slightly under gauge for the sheer size of it. I imagine a musky would test it, alright.
