What's in your vise?

Carp are starting to show up here in the lowest reaches of the Columbia. Over the past several years we have spent a lot of time just across the bridge on the Oregon side chasing carp when the cutthroat fishing slows down! Last weekend we were able to find a few and with all this warm weather its just going to get better! Boxes are ready to rock and Pete shared a new youtube tying tutorial!

That was a good video. He still needs a name for the pattern, right?

Based on Davie McPhail’s Caddis. No shuck since they’re not aquatic insects; the butt is just some flash to get the fish’s attention. Tied the underwing segments folded over, Iike the caddis; next one they’ll be tied horizontally in a V for a wider profile like the natural.

hook - WFC Model 6 #12
thread - SemperFli 8/0 tan
butt - Starburst dubbing tan
body - dubbing cream/tan
underwing(s) - Congo Hair cream
wing - deer hair

Scott

Author's Note

Gilles Dessureault lives in Lévis, more precisely in the Saint-Romuald district, and has been fly fishing for many years. Like all experienced salmon anglers, he suffers from acute salmonitis (a thankfully incurable condition) durinthe winter season, and he enjoys designing flies for the upcoming fishing season. About twenty years ago, he inventedthe Polar, a fly that deserves to be better known. In fact, since then, it has brought him particular success on the Bonaventure River. In his opinion, it would be most effective in partly sunny conditions and tied on size 6 to 10 double hooks.

This is really the true Clam-eggo. Not like the imposter I have up on the vise site.
