I was going to wrap up a couple bugs with small silver Ultra Wire; I'm sure as soon as I try to straighten out this "backlash" I will have a birds nest.......
So much for my silver ribbed bomber midge.

I’ve recently discovered the joy of a spool of ultrawire going haywire (pun intended)…I unwound enough to put in large coils and stored in a small ziplock bag to use first

I t r i e d to untagle the mess, I like your idea of a zip lock bag, I'll just cut short sections off as needed. This spool of ultrawire reminds me of an old intermediate line that acted more like a slinky than fly line.

I have 3 intermediate lines from three different manufactures, they all look the same, they all handle like s**t. My intermediate lines get used the least of all my lines as a result. I also have some wire that looked like that too. I just pulled all the loose wire off and carefully rewrapped it, problem solved. My intermediate lines still suck though.

I took a fly tying class where one of the instructors had a brilliant and simple solution to the crazy wire problems. Cut a piece of plastic comb binding (the type you get at a print store when you have college notes or something similar made. Cut it to fit the spool and wrap it around the wire and it will hold everything. It works amazingly well!

This has a little bit of just about everything...FTD big fly fiber, FTD flash (black), Primotail (AA for the Chartreuse under-tail, A for the body--after dark), rattle, foam, weight on the hook bend for a keel, FTD dubbed head, FTD dragon eyes....all squeezed onto an Ahrex 4/0 TP610. I may trim up the tail a touch to make it less blocky, but I'm going to wait until after I swim it.

Why not wrap the entire body with the silver wire and then wrap over it with a red and/or black rib to give contrast? On a small fly that could make an epic chromie type tie.

Uglified something. Not sure what. The popper bounces wildly when I flick it.

Edit. Now that I think about it, it would probably make more sense to run the leader through the popper to a snap swivel, and then attach any fly.
