What's in your vise?

Muddled March Brown

Yellow Silk
Partridge tail tail
Hare's Ear ribbed with yellow silk
Partridge hackle
Partridge tail wing
Speckled hen shoulder
Deer hair head
These fish well alone on a dry line or as a top dropper, but they really shine swung 2' behind a weighted nymph.
Really nice fly, @Tom Butler ! Here's my homage to it (sans the speckled hen shoulder):

This is a cool pattern for sure. Might have to tie some of these.

Sidenote....I learned a long time ago that "un-matching" the hatch with a beetle pattern can pay off nicely. I always keep a few foam beetles on me river, and lake
One of the times where my wife was the most angry with me was a late evening on Hat Creek where I was headed back to the car and bumped into bamboo rod maker and fisherman extraordinaire, James Reams who "made" me turn around a follow him. He handed me one of his rods, which had a little ant pattern on it and told me that if I wanted to really get the fish's attention during the trico spinner fall that was occurring is that you've gotta un-match the hatch. Ever since then, I've always had a few ant and beetle patterns in my trout box. Shoot, either of those sunken (or weighted and nymphed) is killer too...shhhhhhh.

The reason wifey was so angry was that I told her I'd be back by around 6pm. I made it back to the car by around 10pm....surprised she didn't just leave.

Another kinda boring (and very similar) fly coming off of clarkman's vise.

I really love this color scheme (in case no one's noticed...) or at least some sort of half and half. Buuuut, I was looking through my box and realized I didn't have any little 8" ones tied in more of a glide style (I have 10"+ ones...makes a difference in casting all day). Basically, hook in back, tightly packed shank up front (or at least tighter) with a counterbalance....gliding into the weekend....

It should be noted, however, that I don't reverse tie these at all. Once this thing gets wet, it'll have almost more of a barrel shape to it with those longer bucktail fibers laying down. This both allows for a better glide (combined with a few other things already described) and holds a profile that I really like for our tiger muskies out here.

That's a sweet fly and I'd fish with the legs.

I'm enjoying tying up similar variations on a theme now too. These take me a bit, so I can do a couple steps, tie it off, then come back, while watching mom. This one is grouse layered over the partridge on a GRHE. Should have some good movement.
