thank you for this tipWet you fingers with the ice dub, you’ll get a tighter noodle and therefore, a narrower dubbing collar.
Thank you for the tip of that, im enjoying going through the venture fly co set, learning different techniques, and even thinking of what some color alternatives could be on some of them.@aheinz,
The Griffiths Gnat is one of my go to flies. Nice work.
If by chance, your hackle is too long for your liking, you can just just trim it down to the size you like. The fish don't care. This also allows one to use a wider range of hackle feathers, thus saving the most prized, expensive, smaller sized hackles, on your cape, for more precise dry fly imitations.
One thing I like to do is to trim the hackle flat, on the bottom, of the Griffiths Gnat . This makes the fly ride flush in the surface film. Sometimes, this can make a difference in picky fish, eating in slow water. Leaving the hackle "in the round", so to speak, allows one to easier "skate/twitch" the fly. At times, this also makes a difference to picky fish. Thus, I tie my GG, both ways, in all the sizes I use.
Have fun.
Bob
Nicely tied! Those are tough for me--hard to master is right!Today's learning is Griffith's Gnat. View attachment 138171
Easy to learn hard to master. But super simple and fun
Good stuff. Another option is to just leave all your hackles round and trim on the water as needed. Leaves your options open that way.@aheinz,
