What's in your vise?

Trying to up my bobber fishing game a bit. Balanced dragon- untested but I feel sure it will work if kept near the bottom.

Really liked this idea, and have a half dozen skeins of mohair yarn from a local thrift store, so gave it a try. Fun to tie!

Going to steal this idea. Sure it is a winner.

Not in the vice, but at the vice. Making up a fresh new pair of my fav general purpose stream trout fly fishing leaders.

Man, that purple carnage fly!! What hook is that?
I should also say, purple is a color that does not work well for me. A lot of my buddies that still guide fish purple all the time. I never catch anything on purple. I sent my son (16 yo) up to a creek this past summer (you know, got his drivers license, wants to fish by himself, despite really ever wanting to fish with dad). He asked what fly he should use out of an older box I let him have. I said tie the purple one on and see what happens. He came back, ear to ear grin, saying the purple one killed it (and he had plenty of pics to prove it). I took my 4 year old up a week later on thr same creek and we couldn't buy a fish on purple.

I usually tie that fly with cinnamon foam, and it absolutely slayed for me this Fall, both in Wyoming and Washington. I mean like no other reason to fish another fly. Everyone keeps catching fish on purple but me, so I figured take a succesful pattern, tie it in purple, and maybe I will convert 🤣🤣🤣. I mean I like the color purple, i want it to work...we will see!

You have to BELIEVE in the fly at the end of your line. Otherwise it doesn’t work.

I have had luck with the purple haze, though nothing bigger (and usually smaller) than a #14. I don't know that I could ever be convinced to tie on a purple dry that size (though a great tie!!). I did do well one day in ID nymphing a purple hare's ear. No idea why it worked, but the cutties were all over it. Next day, not so much, so go figure.
