I always thought mop flies were just general attractors (I really only saw bright ones). But these are dead ringers for cases caddis!Trying some Kumoto KJ304 in sz. 10 I picked up at Worley Bugger. 3.8mm mottled black bead. The cream with black simiseal has been deadly so far.

I’ve been doing really well on a cream one also. A couple turns of hen or pheasant hackle behind the bead on mine.Trying some Kumoto KJ304 in sz. 10 I picked up at Worley Bugger. 3.8mm mottled black bead. The cream with black simiseal has been deadly so far.

Thx, that's what I was going for.I always thought mop flies were just general attractors (I really only saw bright ones). But these are dead ringers for cases caddis!
I was thinking soft hackles for the next batch. I got a short turn (stem broke) of partridge on one of the tan and sparkle hares ear versions this time. The loop dubbed simiseal collar moves like a soft hackle in the water.I’ve been doing really well on a cream one also. A couple turns of hen or pheasant hackle behind the bead on mine.
just wait until you check out some of the "variegated" mop material....great stuff for extended bodies on stonefly nymphs!I always thought mop flies were just general attractors (I really only saw bright ones). But these are dead ringers for cases caddis!
I was thinking it would make a good crappie fly, but might pass for a stone with some tweaks.

I don't know, those look really good!
appreciate the kind words....they did work quite well this last spring...last time I trout fished.I don't know, those look really good!
That colorway would make a nice hairwing fly for steelhead.
That top fly color combo and style was very productive for me last year.A few more clousers…
