Inspired by Jack Devlin's beautiful stickleback ties, I went for a couple knock offs. I've not yet mastered working with feathers and naturals enough to pull off that level of tying so chose synthetics as I really want to give this baitfish a try next time on a searrun beach.
Thanks for the inspiration.

Those look great. Is that palmer chenille on the body?

Thanks!

I have it in a bin with other stuff, unlabeled,20230913_091438.jpg bad habit from when I first started going down this road. I think it's flex hackle, it's got a little stretch? Pic attached for reference, I wrapped it over pearl/white flat braid.

Looks like palmer chenille. That stuff is money. Also good palmered over ice dub for searun flies.
I like it on clouser bodies as well.

Thanks for that clarification, I've been trying to figure out exactly what it was because I like it, so appreciate now knowing for sure. I agree it's great stuff, I like the way it wraps and the angle it lays down.

Didn't really care for my last version so I'm gonna see how this october caddis stimulator sits on the water before the action picks up. Next one will have more front hackle. Sz. 8. Oct. caddis diamond dub layered with brown superfine dubbing body. This deer wing should float better. The front hackle was too short, but even with two turns behind the head some flies still spin. Hoping the second wing might reduce that tendancy.
