Fair hooked - proof.

Chunk! I saw this fish mudding, made a cast and stripped the fly and let it drop. I saw the take, old rubber lips headed across the flat. I sure love the sound my Tibor Back Country makes when a fish runs fast. Two fish took me into backing today.

I thought I had it dialed in today; I had hooked five carp, landing four. My casting was pretty good, timing was pretty good and then it just went to pot. I started to wonder after four "I'm positive that fish took" but I never felt them on the strip strike. Nothing. Then there was the fifth fish and I saw it eat. It sucked that hybrid down, I set and felt just the tick. I decided I'd better look at the fly:

Oops! "Check your fly"

noooooooo....

noted....I'll be doing a marathon capr exploration (for me) trip way east of PDX over the weekend. I'm sure I'll be checking my hook now every other cast!

Nice

Nice! What size are you using? #10?
#12 get's the most action against the shoreline, however, had to go down to #14's today to entice strikes.
Find the #10 great for drifting at the edge of the shallow to dropoff, park them and wait

fun dry session today on East Lake, parked on what has become a fave spot by myself. Tied on a #16 Para Adams with a #16 Sparkle Dun trailing, about 50/50 on takes with some nice fish in the mix. Put the boat on the trailer around 3 pm and passed a long line of campers heading up the volcano on my way down. A three day weekend on a lakeside campsite a fine way to close out the summer..

I put in 12 rowboat hours over the past four days and only caught two to 14”. Consensus from all the other inshore anglers that I encountered was that it’s slow but should pick up any day now. There is a ton of bait around and stripers are being caught elsewhere, just not in my little back bay. I’ll give it another shot in early October.

This little guy made my day. I called “last cast” to myself as the sun was dipping below the hills. Nothing on the strips so, once the leader loop was at the tip I did my little tip dance routine and this piglet raced into my view and smashed the fly right next to the boat.
