What's Catching You Fish?

I'm on a quest to see how many species I can catch on a wiggle bug 😁

Obviously, countless LMB of all sizes (black wiggle bug here... the other thing is a frog in its gullet!)

Ditto for lake cutties, but with pink marabou

No pics, but also picked up some bluegill & pumpkin seeds.
This week, I'd tied a bigger version with a bunny tail, and was trying for coho in the salt.

No love from the coho (on anything, none spotted that day where I was) but a pretty nice 17"ish searun munched it! (In the pic its body is resting on the gunwale. The ruler seen under it runs from 2" - 20" edge to edge of frame)
Fished on a sinking line, it moves an awful lot like a sandlance! I need to find some silver bunnies...

Lots of healthy resident cutthroat around. The largest was around 12”.

Stopped on the way home and fished this IMG_1046.jpegabout 5 miles above reach of tide on the same system and got a dime bright SRC. Made me wish I’d tied some orange bodied muddlers.

A variant of this....

Found some gold...

During a short session earlier today.

I've fished a bunch of different foam hoppers and beetles the last couple summers and I can't seem to catch anything with them, even by themselves. The muddler daddys are good until the legs go, then it's just like an EHC and crack for 2-3 inchers with parr marks. The last of the craw thingies I tied last winter, in pine squirrel, was dandy.

I originally tied this pattern for Bluegill. I cast to the edge of the weeds using an intermediate line, count to five so the beadhead can sink a little bit and strip back med. with an occasional pause. Surprisingly I picked up a fair amount of trout. So now I cast to deeper water also with good success. This cloudy August weather has made for some great lake fishing...size 12 hook..

spent several hours going spot to spot, coupla bumps, lotta wind. Said screw it, headed back to the ramp (only one other trailer in the lot today), figured give it one last try so parked in the channel, tied this little red bead hackle leech onto a 5' int sinktip, and in the next hour put a half dozen into the net up to 26" while losing two big hogs that went unpinned during some truly nice aerobatics. Always nice to leave the lake with a grin instead of a sigh...
