This day in history, 1959, the great Ray Charles released:
Cheers

What’s the scene like for one of these listening parties? Do you go with friends? Get a drink and chat or just sit and listen quietly, staring at strangers? People staring at their phones? I’ve been invited but hesitant to invest a precious evening away.Another great listening session tonight at Shibuya HiFi in Ballard. Steely Dan’s Aja on vinyl through a high end system and 1976 vintage Klipsch speakers. The way God intended.

I've been three times now, twice for DSOTM and now for Aja. There are two sections, the bar where you can grab a drink and they play random stuff through a pretty nice system, then the separate 'Listening room' which is kind of like a large living room. You go in, remove shoes, no food or drinks allowed. Twenty people max and you sit on nice chairs or sofas and just sit and listen after they tell you a bit about what you're hearing. Haven't seen any phones out, just kind of reverent silence with a few soft 'Wows' thrown in. I've gone with friends and with just the Mrs. She's not nearly as much of a music geek as I am and comes away in awe each time. It's so cool. What’s the scene like for one of these listening parties?
