What Are You Eating?

Zak, I have never cooked tri tip and am completely unfamiliar with it. I usually see tri tip steak in the meat counter. How was that tri tip roast off your grill? Tough and chewy, or not? Doesn't a roast need to cook slowly? Help me out here; maybe I can learn something.
Tender and delicious! I posted my process here :

https://pnwflyfishing.com/forum/threads/what-are-you-eating.2144/post-313101

The process: dry rub and let roast come up to room temperature, then quick sear on a very hot grill for 4 minutes per side, then move to a cooler area of grill and check periodically with meat thermometer until thick center is 135-137 degree F. Rest, tented with foil, for 15 minutes and then slice across the grain(s).

most tri tips are sold untrimmed, it’s cheaper. Usually packaged with the fat side down. Fat cape is up to 1/2” thick, easy to trim before cooking.
Try a coffee rub:
Equal parts brown sugar and coarse ground coffee
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
1 tsp smoked paprika.
Puts a nice bark on it.

Google Santa Maria tri-tip grilling. Santa Maria started the tri-tip thing. Tri-tips were inexpensive before they caught on widely.

This. I got started on my tri tip journey with this recipe:

Sorry to swing this a lil sideways…
But, I am in Seattle for the night, and went down to one of the establishments at the hotel.

I ordered a Dbl Woodford Reserve with a couple of cubes and was told $38.50

I bout had a coronary!!!

I can buy a whole bottle for about that in Oregon.

I looked up this on the interweb and couldn’t believe what I read.

Do you Washingtonians get raped like that every time when ya what some alcohol?

It’s a wonder this isn’t a “dry” state.

I will BMOB the next time I travel and stay in WA.

It's a lot cheaper to indulge in the cannabis

Nor does the booze price of downtown Seattle. It's expensive everywhere, but bargains are to be found if you drink a different label in different establishments.

One of the wonderful things I've found since moving to Pittsburgh: $5 microbrew pints
aaaaagghhhhh.... there was a time when i could walk to the local brewpub, and buy $6 growlers on sat. it was great, even when they increased the price a bit, but i almost lost it when some shmuck brought in a rolling cooler to fill with growlers.....

I can say with some decisiveness that I love this dish and my least favorite part is peeling and de-seeding those delicious chiles.
Hasten the process with a propane torch while the chiles are on the grill. If they go into a plastic bag after that, you can usually get all the charred skin off and most of the seeds out using the bag like a glove and manipulating the chiles.

Freestyle Aloo Murgh.

I made a big-ass batch of Bhuna Masala this weekend on a whim, so I slapped a couple cups worth in a pot with some ghee, added some stock to thin, then tossed in some chicken thighs and home fries. Let it blorp on the cooktop for about 20 minutes, then dished it out and enjoyed the hell out of it with some yogurt and an NA IPA.
Probably the easiest curry I've ever made...if you dont count the couple hours of stirring to reduce several lbs of onions, tomatoes, and peppers into the awesomeness that is the Bhuna mother sauce.
