What Are You Eating?

Where do you find decent corn this time of the year? Up here when you peel a bit of the shuck back it looks like an Arkansas dental nightmare.
QFC, it was already shucked.. nice and sweet! I've found the corn had been very good in the spring.. as summer comes along it seems to get tougher.. doesn't make sense, but is what I've noticed over the past years.

The corn at QFC right now is imported from Mexico

Yeah, I don't think it can be that good. My MIL done taught me good about fresh corn. Put a quarter inch of water in a pan and put it on the stove to boil. Then go out to the garden and pick some fresh ears, shuck 'em, and place in pan and cover to steam for 3 minutes. Remove, put on yer plate, add butter and salt and commence eating. Best corn eva'!

Takes 2 days minimum to get it from Mexico to QFC, and probably longer.

You guys crack me up. Yes I'm sure homegrown and/or local is better but this was very good. We get most of our food from far away. All of the people to plant and harvest our local produce have been or are being removed from the country! Anyway, I'm off to meet up with Leland! Don't buy the corn.. from Mexico, CA or wherever.. more for me...

I gotta agree. I've been avoiding fresh sweet corn since it's been, you know, winter (allegedly) in the Northern hemisphere, but my wife has brought home some QFC corn the last week and it has been surprisingly good--best of the year--which is relative.

The major corn harvest is now in Mexico, March -May, so lots of fresh corn on the North American market. It is subject to a 25% tariff still I think.
The good thing about it is it's not GMO corn, as Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) corn is not grown commercially in Mexico

When people bring over the massive party size bag of Juanita’s chips and hardly eat any, and there’s a third of a container of pico, part of an onion, and part of a can of enchi sauce just sitting there in the fridge…
Chilaquiles it is.

A rare first for me. Abby is at that "avoid the parents" stage of early teenage years. Recently she's found an affinity for fettuccine Alfredo. Yesterday she asked me for help in making her lunch. I ended up walking her through how to cook the noodles and how to heat the jarred sauce then combine it all, including some small additions she wanted. Kiddo nailed it.

Safety, timing, science and dad /daughter bonding. All over a simple off the shelf lunch.
